Here is a similar comparison test as I conducted with the CDS1100D.
All darks are one minute exposures and the images posted are all 100% crops from the middle of the image.
I took these 7 images while the camera was "cold".
One can imagine what the noise build up would be like at the end of an imaging session. :eyepop:

Yep doesn't take long for the heat to buildup and cause noise, thanks for the comparison. :)

After comparing the 2, I have no compunctions using the CDS1100D at high ISO for short subs.

Hi JJj
Not sure if you've answered this elsewhere but for the cost of the mod and I the camera itself, why didn't you go for a cooled OSC CCD? Just curious.

I was very keen to go OSC CCD, and did much research. I even had a loan of the CCD I was considering buying.
But after seeing and comparing images taken with both cameras, I decided to stay with what I am familiar with. :)
If I was to go the CCD route, it would be a mono cam. so I can take advantage of it's greater sensitivity.

Hi Jjj,
I don't blame you, best to stay with what you're comfortable with, but if you ever re-consider, trust me, its not that difficult at all, and I don't know why, but that 12bit to 16bit, atleast in my opinion, makes a world of difference in ability to subtly adjust midtones and highlights and make the image smooth, especially faint details.
and with software like startools and PI, its so easy to control the dynamic range.
also you don't have to worry about noise or length of an imaging run, although darks are recommended.
anyways, I look forward to some good stuff from the 1100d.

Cheers
