Just after the big wet followed closely by the big blow, I looked out at the night sky and could see some sucker holes near and around Jupiter and so suffering 'cabin fever' I decided to test the ASI120MM again. Initially I tried it with a 2x barlow but the seeing was absolutely terrible and the planet kept bouncing around almost out of frame so I just persevered with the camera in the 10"SCT. Poor seeing but I was amazed what came out of Autostakkert and PS. No colour as no filters as yet. I really would love to see what this camera can do with good steady seeing.

well its cruddy here in Newcastle - no sucker holes to speak of. I hope to be in the swing of things next week so will be using the camera with a filter wheel set on a C11. I really admire what you have got with the camera

Nice detail. You should get some great shots when the seeing comes good.
I will look forward to them.
I wonder how that camera would go on the sun? :screwy:

Thanks Laurie, appreciated
It will be worth the wait.
I hope you get some clear weather soon and I suspect it will be good imaging the sun. I can recommend SharpCap as the image capture software. Very intuative and easy. Also Autostakkert - really nice.
Sorry for the above - couldnt help it.
Keep in there David and where is my truck?
Thanks Carlos for the comments. The jpeg actually lost a lot of subtle detail in conversion from the Tif file. A bit disappointing a cant upload Tifs.

genuine question - what speed and resolution did you have this set at?

Genuine answer - resolution was set at 640x480 and on max fps which if memory serves me correctly was at approx 64fps.
Stacked 20% of the frames (662); exposure 0.006506 sec; brightness=6; gamma =37 and gain=39.
Sorry David it would have helped others if I'd have included that data.

I've had a look at other videos of Jupiter and their final images after processing and I would have rated the seeing at 3/10 on the night as the planet was jittering constantly like cold water on a hot skillette. I long for one of those Avis where the changes in atmosphere are slow and the planet just moves slowly about a mean, then the detail would pop. I think my best bet will be with Saturn as it will be higher in the sky

Well done Allan. You and I, new owners of the ASI 120MM (and probably others), are suffering from the same problem. We haven't yet been able to test the full potential of the camera due to bad seeing. It's frustrating. Your image looks very promising as there is quite a lot of details in it.

Thanks for the comment Trevor much appreciated
Eric all I can hope is that we all get some clear skies soon, but they are a good guider and imager so far as I can tell.

Nice to see you taking advantage of those sucker holes. :)
The seeing has been shyte for ages. :(
But sometimes, if you just continually keep shooting, you'll catch a minute of two of pretty good seeing. :)
Looks like tonight may be clearish. :)
