Considering changing my (small) car and I'm looking at the i20. Drove one on Australia day. Very nice little car. Seems to have good reviews too. Any of you guys have one or an older getz? Happy with it? TIA. :thumbsup:

I have a 5 year old i30 (which I am currently trading in to get an ix35 *grin*) and my wife has the i30CW wagon.

I know these are the bigger brothers to the i20 but I'll give you two big thumbs up for getting an i20. Hyundai have been outstanding in regards to service and reliability. Plus if you get a new car with them and agree to get all your servicing done by their service department, a capped service I might add, then they'll give you 2 years extra warranty on your car, that's 7 years!

We bought a little Getz a couple of years ago for my stepdaughter. Was about $15k on the road from memory and is a really nice little car.
Good value for money, reasonably comfortable for the price. very reliable (she was driving from Melb to Ballarat 3 times a week at the time so that was important)
We received the paint treatment for free as we got the showroom car, and normally I am quite sceptical about that sort of thing , but after 3 years the paint still looks like new.
Servicing is fairly inexpensive also. They can be a little noisy, but that is common with cars of this size, hopefully the i20 improves in that area.

Overall she is happy with "Heidi Hyundai"!

For any car I reckon rent one for a weekend and take it for a good run.
Stuff that you don't notice in a 30 minute drive becomes painfully obvious on a long run, like how comfortable the seats really are vs how they feel for the first hour, what it is like going up hills fully laden, how well the aircon works, how annoying/good the layout is etc. etc.
New cars are such a big investment that I reckon a weekend rental in a worthwhile investment...and an excuse to travel to some dark skies :)

Thanks for the feedback guys. I like Hyundai cars. I already have two.
An Excel Sprint 1997 model which I've just rebuilt the engine. Will give it to my son. And an Accent 2000 model. Never had any major problems. They're reliable and cheap to run. I'm kind of practical when it comes to cars.

I have a mate who' bought a Getz a while ago and was very happy with it. The i20 was very smooth to drive too I have to admit. All small cars nowadays have a lot of safety features as standard which is certainly a big plus from 15 years ago or so.

And yes I'm getting a red one for my wife.

My sister had an original model Excel. It ran IMPECCIBLY neglected (like most single women's cars) for around 8 years before she forgot to fill the radiator. Boiled it dry. Repaired it, and it ran another 2 years before a piston popped out while driving back from Brisbane. It ran on 3 - at a horrendous noise - all the way from about Glasshouse Mountains to Mooloolaba. Replaced the engine for $1500, and it kept going.

Same sister now has an i20. She HATES it, but she was used to the i30 she had in Singapore. Reckons it's gutless, but she's used to it now. They also have a Terracan (bad name for a car - Terracan is close enough to the Russian word for cockroach! Then again, the Mitsubishi Pajero is NOT a good name in Spanish!).

I had a rental i20 when we had the VW given it's 250,000km overhaul. It was OK, once you got used to it being pretty sluggish torque wise, and it is noisey inside. I was happy when the rental people traded me up gratis for a new Camry :)

Town car - GREAT. Highway/Roadtrip...NOPE.

Yep, it is exactly what it means. My grandfather had an original model (the longer wheel base one), and I used to tease him no end about it.

My wiife has a 2 month old i20 manual and we both love it for it's purpose--a cheap run around. We got the 3dr as this gives you a bit more entry room for us bigger Ozzy guys and on that note I fit in it's quite well as it has reach adjustment on the steering.(I am 185cm tall) This was one of the reasons we went with the i20 over others in this bracket without reach adjustment. The 6 speed manual is another reason over a 5 speed and the 5 year unlimited k warrenty. I don't like the 4 speed autos in these small cars under 1.8L as it makes em quiet guttless. The manual goes up the Toowoomba range in 4th gear OK. Fuel economy so far is running at 5.8l/100klm overall and about 4.8l/100klm on the highway. On a negitive note check the door alignments our passenger door was wonkey but fixed at first service.
These cars are made in either India or Mexico so I was told. We paid $13900 (QLD) with a $750 voucher to Myers. Hope this helps:thumbsup:
