The Trapezium

New scope = clouds
This was the only DSO in sight that I could capture between the clouds using short short subs. :)
40x5secs, stacked in DSS and processed in CS3. No darks no flats and no guiding. This is a 100% crop.
Camera = Canon 550D @ ISO400
Scope = Hi Optic 127mm Apo
HEQ5Pro mount.

I'm glad you could get some photons - it looks like we won't be seeing much in the next week or so as that monsoonal trough tracks south! To paraphrase MC Hammer - "It's brolly time!"

That looks great. Getting those stars separated and not blown out is not easy.

127 APO should be a very nice imaging machine and also spectacular visually.

Nice looking closeup shot Jeanette. The HEQ5Pro seems to be handling the size and weight easily.

The new telescope shows great potential. It has a great FOV.

That's a nice close up of this fascinating area, and nice colours too. Seems you got most of the main Trapezium stars :thumbsup:

It's a lovely shot, but it does highlight what I believe is an issue with these NG refractors - soft focus and noticeable CA.

No matter how I tried focusing the NG127 I had - to include a Moonlite stepper motor focuser controlled by the computer - I could never achieve snap-sharp focus with it, and the FWHM values always seemed high (whereas my Vixen refractor I can easily get sub-1.00 on good nights).

If you had to resort to 5sec uncalibrated subs then the conditions (and presumably seeing and transparency) must have been pretty bad. Well done under the circumstances as the shots you posted in the Solar System section certainly show what this scope is capable of :)

my advice - ignore Lewis, he's probably just jealous of your scope time while he's been clouded in... :P

Sorry, I just don't have much positive to say about the NG scopes. I got ripped for the one I HAD.

It's amazing the difference even 37km makes. The weather at 10 Chain Hill Obs, my place and Cambroon Obs can all be different in regards to local seeing, clouds, smoke etc etc.

The ED127 do have potential.Perhaps someone can take the Trapezium with his Vixen. I would luv to see, if the Vixen is worth the money.

I'm about to do a repro on this image. I just added all the subs without checking if they had cloud in them.
I'll repost if it's any better than this one.
