I've got some fantastic news to share.

Long-time IceInSpace member Suzy Webb, has offered to help me out with posting news, articles, images etc to the IceInSpace Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/iceinspace) page.

Her offer came at just the right time. I'm struggling with enough hours in the day to give the right attention to everything I need to, so having Suzy help out will ensure we can keep bringing you interesting news from astronomy and science, information about upcoming celestial events and of course beautiful images from space or from the ground.

Please make Suzy feel welcome, and as always, please keep your likes, comments and shares coming. It helps ensure IceInSpace reaches your friends and continues to grow.

I'll also be looking at ways for Suzy to contribute articles to the main site too, but just need to solve some technical issues.

In the meantime, it may be in the form of threads on the IIS forum.

Cheers and thanks again to Suzy for your help!

Erick, is there a place people like us can meet on-line and discuss how we will never join social media?? :P

PS Thanks to Susy anyway!

Eric and David,

I was like you guys for five years.

I finally caved in and signed up to both Google Plus and Facebook.

With regards to Facebook, it's changed my life, for the better. I was staunchly against it, I'm now totally for it.

It's really just IRC with pictures; you're with people you know (family, friends and associates) rather than talking with strangers. So, in a sense, I was already on the social media bandwagon since the mid-90s when I first got online and was addicted to talking with strangers on IRC.

As Les and others told me when I first got on it, you use it how you want to use it. Associate with those you want and don't with those you don't want to.

In some cases, you even lose friends. Just like real life. :)

Suzy,

Well done. :)

Hello and thank you everyone,:hi:
Wow, I'm so excited to be helping out in this way!:D Who could not be- we have such a great community here and I'm so incredibly proud & honoured to be a part of it- the girl in me just wants to cry my eyes out with happiness!!! Okay, I have already, sssshhh our little secret .

Thank you so much for all your support and encouragement, it's heartfelt.

I understand there are people here that don't like facebook or aren't users, so that's why I want to bring my posts to you all here, and hopefully that'll happen soon enough. Trust me, a lot of them will be worth seeing and reading! I can be like your own little newspaper that you have your morning coffee over. :P, just don't throw it at me! :P:lol:

Congratulations Suzy, I'm sure your time will be well spent and appreciated, well done.

What is different about Facebook and IIS, I am very raw when i comes to social media and don't have the first clue about it.

So could someone enlighten me on the benefits of Facebook please, is there things i can do, that i cant do elsewhere, that I'm doing already

Leon

It's not a forum, like here. But, it is similar in that you can see what your friends and family are up to. You can share photos with anyone, very quickly.

News spreads on there as soon as it happens.

It's fun. Give it a go.

Most of my Facebook friends are Iceinspace ones first Leon.

Others are work colleagues or high school people.

Give it a shot, we'll friend you and help you along the way. I am sure Suzy will tuck you under her Facebook wing too.

:)

Cheers

Thank you so much Paul David, John, Chris & Leon. :)

Sheeeesh I've been busy in there, I need a holiday. Oh, but it's been fun and I'm so glad people are enjoying the content. It's a great feeling getting large amounts of likes and shares, means I'm doing something right I guess. I couldn't come close to having the huge amount of people that traverse that page compared to my page, it's like acquiring thousands of friends instantly. Love it. Now when my family tell me I spend too much time on fb, I have a good excuse... errr the greater education of the masses.

Apologies I've taken so long to come back here, I've been busy helping plan my daughter's wedding on Tambourine Mountain (which was last weekend)- so many things she left for the last minute :screwy: , & much organising having 27 people staying up there too incl. overseas & interstate travellers, on top of getting my head around the IIS fb page (all in the week of getting married). We ended up being trapped on Mt Tambourine with all that bad weather, but that's a whole other story. No one wants to go back there in a hurry now. Bad experience overshadowed the wedding! :help::lol:

Paul, what beautiful words, oh here we go I want to cry again!
The encouraging words I get from people here including yourself means the world to me, you guys & girls have just been so amazing that way towards me, honest to goodness it chokes me up many a time. I love to help, (and despite being such a girrrrl(!)- yes I can poke fun at myself :P:lol:) I feel comfortable doing so because you guys are so amazing! But aside from myself, I see such fantastic support/encouragement/friendship on here towards each other, it's such a wonderful family we have here, always making people feel welcome and needed.

And thank you Chris for your confidence in me, I hope I don't let anyone down- I'll do my best (*she says as she nervously types* lol). It's still a bit daunting at the moment as I'm feeling my way around there with what people want and like, trying to deliver variety to please everyone, while accommodating what I see people really like, and getting a general idea of their behaviour with comments. They seem a very nice, well behaved bunch on the IIS fb page- so many really lovely people there.

Leon, please give fb a go. You'll be surprised how many of your friends on here are there. Also, the IIS fb page is a great way of getting astro news & also useful in pointing out some interesting threads and pics that are here- many of which I've missed until I've seen them there.
Put it this way Leon, if being on fb isn't your thing, you can always leave. But I hope you won't because I think you would have a fabulous time and learn a lot (yes, it's surprising, fb can be a great place to learn as you can get news feeds from many science sources- not just the IIS page!) and we all get to hang out together. Another thing that's great about it- so many of us get on at silly wee hours of the morning after an obs or photographing session and want to share the excitement of what we've seen/photographed, and you can be almost guaranteed that at least one of us from IIS will be there to share in the excitement! It's 3am now and I'm still here online typing this. :P:lol: Yes, I would love to hold your hand on fb, and I will introduce you to many fellow IIS'ers, absolutely with what Chris said. Please consider joining us. And if you do, you have to make sure you "Like" the IIS fb page- I'll make sure of it. :P
Put it this way- H broke and joined and he's enjoying it. Go with that with proof that it's not such a bad thing.

Have we broken Leon yet

Paul: Oh yes, sure, sure, :P where are you then? I dare you to show yourself & friend me. :P:lol:

Suzy

See, my posts don't seem so long if I break them down do they. :innocent:

Congrats and good luck Suzy, just the right person for the job IMHO.

H, I'm with you on this. Hung off away from FB for years, didn't want to know about it. Joined because of this site, friends etc and in the process found my estranged daughter from a previous marriage and my grandkids. Gotta to be good.
But you're right, you need to manage your friends on there as it can all get a bit overwhelming if you let it or pay too much attention to it all. I don't post much and I don't comment too freely but it's a not too bad way to keep up with people you don't always get to see. Just wish you could get rid of some of the dodgy ads and rubbish that pops up ..

Onya, Brent. :)

I don't have much time at the moment, but, it's nice to have a quick scroll at the end of the day and see what's been happening. Love seeing photos on there from some of my favourite photographers and a couple of design and art pages that I'm subscribed to.

Leon, don't do it! It's a trap!

I went the other way. I was on it, but decided that the real world has enough in it for me. Cancelled my account 3 years ago, and haven't even been on the FB homepage since.

Besides, I spend my online time here. That's enough, isn't it?

Good luck Suzy ... I hope you negotiated a good salary package!
