I have been hanging out to try my new ZWO ASI120MM and I gave it a shot tonight in less than best conditions 25+ knot gusting winds and dodgy seeing. No way that I could do anything but low res at prime focus.

ED127 APO RGB through orion filters on a manual filter wheel. 2000 frames each stacked in AutoStakkert_2.1.0.5 Processed in CS4

Camera works well and shows a lot of promise (If I can get the handbrake off! I never got it above 30fps).

BTW this is the first planetary pics i've done for nearly 2 years so a bit rusty
All the best

Paul

Thanks Laurie.

Thanks David I was determined to ignore the bad weather and get a shot in regardless. I think that these cameras are dammn good value for what they do. I look forward to seeing your results.

All the best

Very nice image and I'm impressed that autostakkert does a nice job and finished off with PS is what I have done. Liked the wide field of view and colour. As an imager and guider I think it's great value for money.

which capture programme did you use?

Thanks Allan, It's the first time I've used autostakkert and it took me a couple of goes to find the right settings to get a good result. I love the auto sharpening, detail just leaps out and then you can bring it into PS to get the best and enhance the finer detail and apply some colour balence. When I do some larger detail pics I may use registax for the wavelets.

All the best

Paul

thanks for that - so you didnt do a region of interest but the full frame of the chip - -that is limited to 30fps then?

It would seem so, First time I've used this program too. The camera should have been able to get up to 70 fps at 640X480. I'll keep fiddling and see what happens.

Congrats on that. Great image

Let us know how you get on with the handbrake.I got the setting sorted out in Sharpcap for high speed but still not touching the 70. Best I have is around 35 to 40.

Looking good though..Patiently waiting for the moon

On the ZWO webpage http://www.zwoptical.com/Eng/Cameras/ASI120/index.asp There is an example of turning on the high speed in FireCapture. I may install that program and see if it makes any difference. In SharpCap I did notice moments in both 640x480 and 800x640 where the frame rate was exactly half of what is stated by the company. I peaked at 34 fps at 640x480 and 24.5 at 800x640.
