I pulled out the scope for the first time in over a week on Sunday. The night was terrific with no cloud and good seeing.
This is the best shot from the 17 avi's I took.
I trimmed it down to 330 frames with Virtual Dub and processed with Registax. Final tweaking in Photo Impression 2000.
It's the best detail I've gotten in the GRS yet. :)

Very nice jjj! Is it the camera that is not capturing the colour?
Does it have a saturation option?

I can adjust the white balance, gain, exposure etc but nothing can coax the old girl (she must be at least 7 or 8 years old and one of the first digital video cameras out) to capture in colour. Only once did I get it, during the photo comp, but other than that, nothing.
But it's good practice for me to try to get the best greyscale images I can out of it.

Nice effort jjj. I wonder if you could capture colour using filters???:confuse3:

Nice shot! :) Have you tried playing with the brightness / contrast of the image in your picture editing program? I can usually force a bit of colour out of my bland images in photoshop with these controls. Keep up the good work

Yup, tried that. What a hoot, juggling eps and filters in the dark. I was taking too long changing filters, keeping in mind Jup's fast rotation, so I ended up not actually screwing the filters in but using a little bluetak to stick them to the front surround of the ep then most carefulling butting the camera up to them.
I followed the article that Steve Massey wrote in his Night Sky book that explains how to process the pics, but no joy.

Hi jjjnettie, great stuff. I'm amazed you can get this sort of detail with a 7 year old camera. Just imagine if you were doing this 7 years ago - these images would be cover material for SKy and Telescope :D
cheers,
2 right robert :)
great stuff jeanette :)

Check this out. :D
If you guys weren't pushing me to try to get colour in the shot, I never would have come up with this!
