This is a faint nebula in Auriga that I did Ha for a while back. The total imaging time was about 19 hours. The most notable features of IC410 are the "tadpoles" which show up more clearly in the Ha than the RGB. I suspect narrow band would be the way to go here but Dean still hasn't bought that OIII filter yet.

Thanks guys. None of the RGB images that I've seen of this one have the same degree of detail as a good Ha. I think narrowband is the only way to do it justice in colour.

Wow that's an interesting one which I've never heard of. Great image as usual Steve, and those tadpoles look really intriguing especially with that exquisite Ha detail.
Looking forward to the full colour narrowband version at some stage.

Thanks Rolf. Narrowband won't happen until my American colleague obtains some filters. I even hinted that I could make a contribution once.

The Ha image looks amazing - it's much better than the colour version -
which would be expected on such a tough target.

Thanks. I'm currently trying to get a nice natural looking RGB image that incorporates the detail of the Ha but haven't succeeded yet.

Always a possibility. Should have thought of that at Christmas <g>. I am after all getting access to the scope for free. One difficulty is that he does a lot of LRGB images of the Sharpless catalogue so needs the LRGB and Ha filters and there isn't a spare slot in the filter wheel.

Oh very nice Steve!! :thumbsup::thumbsup: I like both the HA & colour versions! The colour is definitely showing the depth present in the Ha data.

Put this down to personal taste if you like but perhaps you could take advantage of the smaller stellar profiles in the Ha a bit more? I'm definitely a star lover but they do tend to distract attention from that gorgeous nebula.

Hi Steve,
I hope you don't mind?

I used your data to make a cropped version of your pic.
Using the Ha as luminosity & HDR toning + LAB colour
& many other tricks I ended up with this.
It has smaller stars & the tadpoles show up clearer + more detail in the nebula.
Unfortunately some of the smaller stars ended up a bit green
but I think it shows that there is a lot more in your data.

Hi Steve,
That's good - you can of course do a lot more with the original data.
I had trouble lining up the 2 main layers & problems with the colours
such that I had to split the channels of RGB & work on each separately.
Good luck with your new version - I will be pleased to see it.

Thanks Allan. Just posted a new version which in the end wasn't that different from the old one. I think this one looks slightly more natural and I did try and reduce the stars a bit. Also I think the tadpoles are a bit more prominent too.

I think you're right to possibly pursue a narrow band version as in this APOD:

I can't find any LRGB pics that show this target well.

Thanks Alan. Yes, NB would be much better as exemplified by the Ha but can't be done at present. I'm thoroughly sick of this image. Time to move on I think.
