Decided to re-visit this old chestnut (Thor's helmet), and started to gather some h-alpha data.
As if dodging clouds & suspect seeing was not enough, late night air traffic and satellites also had to make their presence felt...

Very impressive detail for only 30 minutes. That AP RHA is a masterpiece.

Thanks Greg.
It's a delightful scope, but it is quite terse with any camera tilt or inaccurate focus.
It could also do with some more backfocus. That said it collects light 4x faster than a 6" refractor.... I just wish I had more scope time + better weather to really see what it can do.

The usual lovely tight stars with that scope and great detail for only 30 minutes. Just plane bad luck to get two trails. Rarely happens in Canberra because of less traffic I suppose.

Certainly a great scope, Peter! Shame about the trails. Detail is wonderful!

Looking good Peter.:)
Perchance might one of the trails been made by a Qantas A380 ;)
Cheers:thumbsup:

Ironically you wouldn't believe the number of aircraft I get in images...
Even at this stage I noticed a good deal of extended faint nebulosity...suspect about 8-10 hours would do nicely.
Thanks Laurie...I think I need to set up remotely to get the best out of it

Marginally less than 3x faster in actual reality.

Indeed, accounting for the secondary, 3x is about right.
Doubt it...judging from the altitude and heading, he was on his way to Kiwi-land at around midnight. Sing-air perhaps?
Hey Peter,
Does this telescope come with any built in tilt plate adjustments?

G'day John.... no it doesn't, but I've used plastic shim stock with good success.
A micro-touch electric focuser is also an absolute must

ooh Thors Helmet, I love that target, it was my first light with new camera, and something i really want to do properly again at some point. It's just so pretty.
So much detail. :)

It's a good photo & there are ways of getting rid of satellite trails in Photoshop
& some programs have a special function for it.

Great image, and lots of detail for 30 minutes.
I have just over 11 hours of data on this sitting on my disk at the moment but haven't gotten around to processing yet. I think I'll add more data though, it never hurts :P:lol:
Funnily enough I noticed heaps of satellite trails in this area too.

That's some great definition in Thor's helmet... looking very 3D. As for the planes, surely you have some ATC buddies at Air Services Australia whom you could ask nicely to divert a few planes away while you're imaging?
