Just some B&W Lum (4.5 hours) from earlier this week but I got some nice seeing! This is an interestingly shaped galaxy being disrupted by its dwarf companion NGC 1531.

Hopefully the weather will let me gather some colour data this weekend (but I doubt it!). Even so the B&W is pretty cool looking.

Cheers Justin! Strangely, even though I got very warm nights, the sky was very still. It's sooooo nice imaging when the stars are little pricks ... errrrr ... pin pricks that is! :D

Thanks Al!

Hehe, thanks Dave. Imaged at the beginning of the week, processed the result properly today.

Me too Rick. Only problem is if it doesn't cool down to say 28C at night my camera won't cool enough to make the effort worthwhile. I did 1/3 of my subs at -5C and that wasn't really enough. Tonight's not looking good and they're calling for 44C tomorrow and showers. :mad2:

Excellent Marcus, it resembles a giant crab crawling towards us :eyepop:

Good thing about the FLI on these hot nights - I'm out imaging at the moment and earlier it was 28C and the chip still managed to creep to -30C :D

Good luck with getting the colour soon, it will be a lovely galaxy shot I can tell

...Imaging Royalty  yeh, I'm the Jester :nerd:

Thanks Greg!

Thanks Ross! There are plenty of other images of this object taken with larger apertures & FLs that show greater detail , but none that I can find with a 6" refractor - so I'm well pleased. :)

Cheers Peter. Started gathering some colour last night between clouds but I need 2 more good nights. What do you reckon my chances are!?

Cheers Larry!

Cheers Mike! Yes, I long for a 60C below ambient camera!! Maybe an STXL? Glad to hear you got some imaging done!

Cheers, Marcus

Excellent stuff Marcus! I've rarely seen that much detail in that galaxy. Good luck with the colour.

Cheers

Marcus I agree an interesting galaxy. I like the interactive stream showing up too. Colour should look good. Is this a crop? Star sizes seem a bit big to me, so hence my question. That said the detail in the arms is superb and I think this will be a very nice image.

Thanks very much Steve!

Cheers Paul - glad you liked it! Yes it's cropped - you're seeing about 72% of the full 4008 pixel wide frame. It's not scaled though. The galaxy is pretty small (for my scope) at around 3 x 13 arcmins so some cropping is in order for a pleasing composition. Not too sure about the stars looking big (?) - the dimmer ones are only about 2 pixels across (FWHM).
