On Friday night, my friend Jeremy and I scouted some locations around Dooralong on the Central Coast of NSW to look for great spots for nightscapes.

We found a paddock with an old dead tree and setup facing South, and while one camera was clicking away for star trails, I used my other camera to move about the tree capturing different angles. This one was facing West, in anticipation of capturing the International Space Station when it passed by just before 10pm.

The sky and foreground is a single 30s exposure, with the ISS a composite of 7 x 30s exposures as it passed over.

Thanks for looking!

Nice views Mike. I wonder what Magellan would have thought, in his day, of people orbiting the Earth in a space station!

I think that I like these “dashed” trails better than a single continuous trail. Maybe it conveys the sense of movement more effectively?

Cheers

Very nice there Mike.
Been some good passes of the ISS of late.

Is that amp glow in the bottom right hand corner?

Thanks guys.

You're right Dennis - I also like to think about the astronauts in there while I'm watching it go overhead.

Dean -yeh it seems that way. I'm not sure why though, it was only a 30s exposure and I don't usually get it. It could've been something to do with the lens fogging up but not sure.
