I thought i would give M42 a go last night, i am quite pleased with the results, im still learning how to use the DSLR, I must have been imaging m42 for almost 2 hours, changing settings, adjusting focus, drinking copious amounts of coffee. I really wanted to stay up for saturn, but as 3am drew near my body went into hibernation mode :D
ISO6400 - 1 minute unguided (im still saving for my guide scope)
I have played with the image in paintshop, adjusting brightnesss and contrast, unsharpen mask, and RGB, another thing im still learning.
Nice pic for a beginner well done  yeah I know the feeling I'm still having a love/hate relationship with my camera it takes me a few hours to get the settings the way I like them lol lol  i have come to an understanding that you really need a lot of patience for this hobby :P keep em coming
Cheers

IMO it's all about having fun with a hobby you enjoy! Getting & displaying world class images is a by product! Lovely work, & I'm glad your enjoying the ride.

Great first effort and you are at the beginning of a long but satisfying road. What til you get several hours of data and the same processing and then you still want more.......obsessive?
Welcome to the dark side.

Don't worry, you'll get there. This is a fine image.
Once you get your settings right on the camera. Write it down in a note book, and keep it with your gear for future reference.
When you get perfect focus, use a Niko pen and mark it on the draw tube of your scope, so next time you will only need to adjust it only the smallest amount. :)
Keep at it. You're doing great.

LOL Dark side Indeed! I still love looking at objects through my EP's, but after an hour im removing the visual back and installing the camera lol
I was really surprised with the detail from 1 single exposure!
Thank you everyone for the kind words, this really is a for-filling past time, Im seeing objects that I have never seen with my own eyes, and only ever dreamed of as a child, now i get to share this with my children.
