Without a scope - which was busily burning in a bushfire many k's from the beach - I managed a few nights to capture these despite an almost full moon.

Very nice - Just the sort of shot I was failing to take this week at the coast!
thanks guys. I wanted to get the lighthouse dead centre of the SCP but it would have meant climbing on some guy's house roof!

I love that first one Niko, and it's now IOTW (http://www.iceinspace.com.au).
One small critique: Make the horizon straight :)
What were your settings? One long exposure or multiple short?

Very nice Niko. I love the lighthouse, too. Congrats on IOTW.
What a nice compliment Mike, many thanks and all positive criticisms welcome.
I was struggling with the holiday desire to sleep more than be awake and a moon that was rising early and pretty darn full.
The foreground sea in the IOTW was replaced using one that Registax produced - it was smoother and I felt had a nicer silky look to it. Not really knowing how to efficiently reaplce it I had to muck around with layers erasing the foreground in one and the background in the other and then merge. Fortunately the low res here hides that sin pretty well.
I was planning a few more all nighters with the moon less full and rising later. Sadly, my 20 acre block north of Daylesford was destroyed by fire on New Year's Eve by a neighbiur illegally burning off. Resulted in over 200 acres being destroyed - fortunately no loss of life but I did lose all my sheds and dwellings AND my beloved and modified Dob.
He will be charged but having cancelled my insiurance some months ago to save a quid or two now I am married I am not hopeful of getting much back.

Anyway, thanks again for the comments it helps light a pretty grim week.
exposures were 30 sec using a Canon 1100D at 800 ISO and a Tokina 11-16mm lens. Satcked using Startrails.de and no other post processing - except for foreground replace. I did try single long exposure (always what I used with film camera) but the light of the moon was just too much
cheers
