G,day Cobbers,

Had a great night under the heavens last night despite the fact that the clown next door left his outside light on (It is still on and it is now just after noon :screwy: ).

After I had a look at M83 with my 300mm Dob I checked out the surrounding skies for other galaxies and I came across NGC 5102 just to the north of Iota Centauri. For a galaxy I have never heard of before (It wasn't listed in my copy of Hartungs) It was suprisingly bright and attractive in a starry field. Close to 5102 were NGC 5121 and 5121a. Both were much fainter than 5102 but I still picked them up with out too much hassle. I have enclosed some pics of NGC's 5102 and 5121 from the NGC project. However, I could find no Image for NGC 5121a. From my ob's it is larger than 5151 but fainter, slightly elliptical and almost featureless.

Check em out

Hi Micko, glad to see you got some observing in last night as I also did, obsrved till 23:30 then the mist rolled in so called it a night.
You must have the original Hartungs, published in 1968, Ngc 5102 is on page 197 of the Malin Frew revised edition published in 1995.
Ngc 5121 has a given mag of 11.5 and Ngc 5121A mag 14.7, I have observed Ngc 5102 heaps of times ,but never Ngc 5121/A, next time i'm out with the 40cm I will give them a try.
Clear Skies Ron:thumbsup: :astron: :stargaze:

Ron, Yeah I do have the old Hartungs, found it in a second hand book store in Fremantle. Thanks for the info on 5121A, It seemed a bit brighter than 14.7 tho.

Thanks for your comment lester :)
