I wanted to try to merge to images together...this was a very frustrating and time consuming job.

I started imaging this target very early in the night just above the horizon.

4 x 4 minute unguided exposures for both images = total 8 x 4 minutes

Taken with the ED80 and 350D

Had to darken the image to reduce vignetting but otherwise I was happy with my first attempt of a mozaic even though it was only 2 images.

No flats or bias frame just a single dark used for calibration.

I have attached a starry nights image for info on target.

The 2 clusters are NGC 6231 and ??????
Hope you like it....I give it 4/10

At least 8/10 as far as I am concerned. Great pic :)

I love it!
Mosaic effect is great, putting the cluster into a perspective I really like.
What software did you use to create the mosaic?

wicked! but I do notice your SNP screenshot is suffering from bad coma/abberations/ and CA and possible field rotation!!? :P

Hi Tony

Wow - that is very nice indeed; more than double the impact and greater than twice the pleasure in looking at the wide panorama.

Cheers

Well done tony
But I have enough trouble getting one image looking ok , don't set the bar too high .

Nice work Tony but that Modded 350D yields too much red, obviously a defective model.
I'll buy it off you real cheap so you can buy something else.

:whistle: :lol2::lol:

Nice try Andrew...it is too red but it was needed to bring out the detail....lol

Frank the idea of joining 2 images is not new...lots of members here have merged multiple images together with great success, my point was it's very easy to merge images together but where I had a lot off difficulty was because the images were taken so early in the night when the target was very low on the horizon at 8:30pm and because of this their was plenty of skyglow and turbilence to consider...merging 2 images with different background colors was the difficult part...thats why the background is a bit too dark for my liking....but it was all fun...took 4 times what it should have but never the less was fun....hehehe
