Abell 1060 - NGC 3308-3317 Some faint fuzzies

Hi All,

About all I can salvage from the last week of bad clouds, full moon dodgy collimation and bad tracking. This was taken on Dec 26th. I tried the moon and skyglow filter on the camera, but it didnt have the same effect as the Eos clip used to on the Canon.

Only 30 mins of lights (3 min subs), with darks, flats and bias. The flats didnt have too much effect.

Not my best work, needs more data, but nice to see a few faint fuzzies with the new CCD camera.

Nice Chris, seeing the conditions you imaged in.
Those bright stars would have made it even harder .

Yeah those mag 5 and mag 7 stars really washed things out.

I was hoping for some more subs, but wispy clouds rolled in halfway through the run, so I think some of the reddish cast could be from that, or the (now understood to be visual) moon and skyglow filter. I had a hell of a time trying to remove the gradients even with the not so perfect flats I took.

I am still experimenting with what works at my location. Might have to look up when the IISAC is on this year and get some dark sky light years under my belt.....:)

Looks like a nice little cluster to observe :)
By next Cambroon night, it should be quite a good hight at about 22:00.

I may have to get some visual obs back in the dance card there Ron.

I had a quick squiz the other night after clouds ruined my imaging, it was a nice change. Not sure the 8" could pick this lot up visually though.

It was quite nice to have my youngest son Luke watching the screen with me as we took a "tour" of Tarantula, Eta Carina etc etc and showed him some quick and dirty CCD images of things he has only seen in the eyepiece before. WAAAY past his bedtime when we packed up around 2am. But it was nice to have him help me pack up too....;)

School holidays after all...:)

Hi Ross,

Yeah, ain't it cool? I think I lost count ( or gave up :P) at around 15 or 16.....

I would have struggled with the DSLR to pick up this region at all given the conditions.
