Jupiter 29th dec

Wasn't going to post this up as its pretty ordinary but thought what the hell.
My first real go at Jupiter taken with the 12" skywatcher goto dobbie with the neximage camera.
About 400 frames stacked in registax.

I think there must be a better way at stacking with registax than what im doing :(

:) It's better than what I've managed to catch so far Paula.
There is another program called Autostakert, you stack your .avi in that, them open the final image in Registax to apply your wavelets, then finish it off in Photoshop.
It's a lot faster than Registax.

I am also struggling with Jupiter at the moment. I have been out every night for over a week now, and every night the seeing is bad :mad2: What's the point being on holidays if you can't enjoy your astronomy!!

I agree with jjj, Autostakkert seems to do a better and faster job at stacking AVIs. You can choose to sharpen the stacked image in Autostakkert or import it in Registax and sharpen it with the wavelets there.

Hi Paula,

That is a very creditable image given the circumstances of Jupiter at the moment.

Unfortunately with the Neximage you are very heavily influenced by the seeing. With a 12inch, you should have plenty of light, so perhaps try the shortest exposure you can get away with. Don't be too worried about the brightness on screen, as it can be adjusted back up in later processing (within limits).

As Eric said, the recent seeing in Adelaide, while clear, has been terrible for fine detail. I guess the same might be so for Victoria.

Given that initial promising result, I think it would be certainly worth persisting and experimenting some more.

Thanks guys, i'll keep at. I had a play with autostakkert but couldn't work out how to use it. I'll have another fiddle and see what i can do.
Planing on getting a 4x or 5x powermate so i hook up the dlsr which i think will be better.

Great first effort, Paula! Autostakkert is by far the most superior stacking program out there right now - It does have some problems with different formats however, although the creator has fixed most of this I think. Registax still works ok; just no good for what I do (I have to debayer) due to it's low quality algorithms.

Thanks John, I did notice when trying to stack with autostakker that some of the files were incompatible. Will have to sit down and read the step by step guide as i didnt know what i was doing.



Thanks Ray. I use best 80% frames, align points, align, limit, stack then wavelets.
That's about it. Have also tried registax 5 and the final image isnt any different.
