Well this is a first for me i have never shot m42 before with any results but i thought would have a go at combining differnt shots and try my hand at some masking and so the result,taken with the cooled 40d prostar 127 1hr 30min cls filter

given the weather we have had Al - i think its a great first go at it, we will never be in the gendler/sidonio class .

Alan, that's a really tight image, nicely composed and processed. I really like it.
It funny that there are some iconic things that are still out there to be imaged and it's only the weather etc that stops us. Keep at it.

Great first photo of M42 Alan.
I really like your colours....looks "natural" compared to other M42 photos.

That's a very good shot Alan. Only comment would be its a bit too bright for the level of signal you have to work with thus reducing contrast.
I would darken it up a tad to boost contrast.

Thanks Greg i had a play with the LHE tool in pixinsight and that seems to have boost contrast and brought out some more detail in the image

Now that's a really good image Alan. Have to love Pixinsight especially the LHE tool.
