Hi All,

Imaged Saturn Dec 21st in fair seeing for the alt Have attached 2 742IR data sets & 1 RGB.
Both IR sets are created from 3 separate data sets over 11 min's, I am rather pleased with how the Crepe ring came up, particularly in the IR data. The RGB is 2 separate data sets over 11 mins with all derotated in WinJUPOS.

Dec 22nd had all computer models predicting better conditions. In the event it turned out to be rather variable and I was not able to get the number of consecutive data sets I would have liked for derot. Thus my first 742nm IR is just one data set, as is the RGB. My final IR is 2 data sets derotated.

Thanks for looking.

Regards
Trevor

very good result trevor. Do you think we will see much storm activity on saturn next year?

Great stuff Trevor. I agree with you on the crepe ring, did come up really well on the IR images.

Thanks very much Laurie.

Thanks very much Asi, yes, as the rings open ever further over the next few years the CD will be a formality. In only 4 weeks time Saturn will have climbed to 50 degrees from my observatory and reach 70 degrees later in 2013. I cannot wait to get some good data at higher alt, the ring detail, I beleive, will be very special.

Thanks very much Mark, Saturn has been full of surprises over the last several years. The SED's activity is unpredictable and transient of nature so it is difficult to forecast what might happen this apparition. Only a couple of days ago I received a message from the RPWS researcher I am involved with, that currently the Cassini RPWS instrument is not detecting any SED's.

Thanks very much Ivan, it certainly is encouraging and bodes well for all of us, to be getting reasonable detail from poor low alt data this early in the apparition. Roll on 2013.

Very nice - especially so low in the sky!

Thanks Ray, I expect that in 2013 we will all be able to resolve the Enke Gap right across the width of the rings, given favorable conditions.

Thanks Graeme.

Thanks Dave, we wont have long to wait for Saturn to double & triple its current alt prior to dawn.
