Hi,

Here is a white light image of the Sun taken with my Vixen 80mm refractor and Canon 450D at prime focus. Exposure was 1/640 sec.

Hi Laurie,

The image was taken through my Lunt 60mm solar telescope. I usually use an imaging source DMK video camera but this time I tried my Canon 450D DSLR and a x2 Barlow. One shot captured the prominences whilst another shot captured the disk detail. The two were then combined in Photoshop. Not as good crisp detail as with the DBK but it is quick and it's getting pretty hot out in the summer Sun.

Hi Richard, well done. H-Alpha through a DSLR is always a challenge. I liked your first H-alpha version better. That first version just needed some tweaking with curves and levels in Photoshop to increase contrast. Hope you don't mind I had a quick crack at it.

Not at all. I also like the result. I'm still working out how to process an image to get a result which is both visually pleasing and true to what I see through the eyepiece. Any advice is much appreciated.

More fun with photoshop whilst waiting for the sky to clear. I think a greyscale image can highlight a lot of solar detail. Its amazing to me that we can now routinely observe and photograph the sun in H-alpha. Something I only dreamed about a few years ago.
