View Full Version here: : What web browser do you use?

Just out of curiosity.
I am Chrome all the way! Used to be on Firefox ages ago, got a virus through it which I had to reinstall the entire OS, somehow it affected my boot.
Plus Chrome is smart on how it has a separate process for each tab you open. I remember with Firefox (no idea if the latest version is different) the RAM usage would build up and even if you closed your tabs the RAM would not decrease. Chrome terminates the appropriate process when you close a tab and you get your RAM back.
I will never go back to Firefox or IE! Safari is just way behind them two.

I use Chrome on my iMac. It's so well designed it doesn't feel like a third party application.
Stefan,
Real men don't use browsers. They just use a network analyzer and decode in their heads the
raw Ethernet packets like on those screens in The Matrix.

I used firefox from the old days it was named phoenix. Would still be now but a dispute with a bios manufacture IIRC made that name not so. Firefox is now bloated and resource hogging. These days I'm Chrome on the iMac, iPad and iPhone with the syncing feature which is great. I use safari for reading lists and the cloud syncing between the three devices.
80% chrome, 20% Safari. Come on Tim, Get Safari working properly!

Ha! Real men read machine code and can tell when an e-mail arrives by the characteristic tingle in the wires.

In case no-one knows what Gary and I are referring to, we (well, I am at least) are alluding to old articles on "Real Programmers". I remember chuckling to these way, way back when I was as an undergraduate ...
The first one is short, so I'll include it whole:
The second one is longer, so here is a link:
http://www.pbm.com/~lindahl/real.programmers.html
And finally, a more modern interpretation especially for Unix/Linux users:
http://xkcd.com/378/
(The xkcd series of comics can be quite funny, for those in the know).

I run a few versions of Firefox from 3.5.19 to v17.0.1 & have never had any problems with any of them.
They all work just fine.

How do I vote "all of them"?

If you use more than one just vote for the one you use the most.

Where's Netscape Navigator in that list? ;)
I know right, it was by far my favourite one to use.
You can still run it if you like or at the least a very close facsimile.

Don't forget an oldie , but a goodie... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynx_%28web_browser%29
Believe it or not... I've used it recently (to scrape code on a site that plants malware).

On PC I always use Firefox on the ipad I use icab mostly for its ability to handle flash or iswifter for more complex flash apps it is slow for browsing but flash content works in it better.
OPERA, since v1.something.
I can't believe Opera was relegated to "OTHER", considering it is the browser all other browsers copy.
Every innovation boasted by web browsers originated with Opera. It is still the smallest, fastest and lightest of them all, and easily the best in my opinion.
But I'm not a fanboy...
One of the reasons I keep my own website simple (almost entirely text) is because it still gets a lot of hits from Lynx users, mainly university people.

Linux - Firefox
Windows - Waterfox
Mac - Firefox
Android - Chrome
iPad - sometimes Opera Mini but usually Safari (all other browsers except for Opera Mini are just re-skinned Safari)

Ah yes, of course :) I used Lynx the very first time I delved into the world of dial up networking many moons ago :)

Firefox too bloated, too many updates.
Chrome just works, fast!

IE, FF and Chrome - much the same usage of each - different machines different purposes. I just do - don't know why exactly.
IE for me
Mostly because it come bundled with the computers software.
Ask and you shall receive.
I do have another workstation here that still runs NCSA Mosaic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosaic_%28web_browser%29), which was the first browser I ever used.
Booting the machine however tends to dip the whole power grid on the upper north shore.

I am a "opera" fanman. I have all my email acc. set up and when a new mail arrives it's right there in the browser. It is the browser's browser. No more need be said.

In fact there is more to be said. What imbecile had opera thoughtlessly tossed in the "other" bin. I've never been so insulted.

I kind of agree, Opera is one of those rare cases where it is the best at what it does but the majority of people either don't know or don't care enough about it to change (or it gets "out-marketed" by the more popular products).
I'm included, I have used Opera for a few periods in the past and TBH I don't really know why I don't now...
The integrated mail, the startup screen (which it did first) and the fact that it's always been recognised as the fastest browser (last time I checked) means it should have way more users than it does.
Hmm... Off I go to get Opera and give it another go...

Be careful where you say that - some might see that as a challenge! :D

I thought the Firefox addons were pretty cool when I first used it but now I don't really use addons in Chrome. Firefox takes those few seconds to load whereas Chrome doesn't.

If you're on Windows Firefox is still only 32bit (for some reason). Try Waterfox, it's basically the current Firefox compiled for 64 bit Windows, might make it a bit faster for you.

I use Chrome as a second browser but I corral it in a virtual machine as it has fewer privacy features than Firefox.
I've never understood why start-up time is viewed so critically - you can simply minimise it after the first time (or move to an alternate desktop if you have that feature in your OS).
Yeah I was a very early adopter, but I stopped using it because they were charging for it and there were good free competitors.
I tried it again when they stopped charging but had advertising... deleted it pretty soon after.
When I heard it was totally free(v8 or 9?) I was a very happy chappy.
I don't know that they came up with every innovation, but many of them.
The tabs up top which every browser now has and the Speed Dial which Chrome has, dunno if FF or IE have the speed dial as I haven't looked at them in years.
Chrome isn't bad, but it chokes on some websites and content. FireFox seems so clunky and patched together, although my wife is happy with it. The only thing IE is good for is Windows Updates.
You can have my Opera when you prise it from my cold dead hands.

I've been using Opera for many years and 100% happy with it.
