Hi everyone,

At only 31 degrees elevation Jupiter is a very tough object for us southerners but thought I would put my newly aquired IR 685 pass filter to a test in average conditions and the results on Jove seem ok. At least the GRS and relevant disturbances in the GRS and NEB areas are visible.

Taken with my set up at just after midnight this morning from Melbourne.

Clear skies to all.

John,

Good work with the IR filter. IR or deep red has the potential to eliminate a lot of poor seeing, and you have used it to good effect.

Also, Europa really stands out in IR! Great image.

P.S. It is mirror imaged. Is there a diagonal or extra mirror somewhere in your setup?

Well done John, a nice debut shot for your new filter.

Thanks Ivan. I did not spend too much time framing the shot. North is on top and South at the bottom, no diagonal or mirrors.

Thanks Trev. Have enjoyed seeing your posted Jove photos with your updated equipment and hope we all get some clear air soon.

Nice detail in this one John, so the filter works well it seems.
