Looking through 2012 - A Year in Photographs (http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2012/12/2012-the-year-in-photos-part-3-of-3/100420/)I came across this image.

Love it.

I can't believe the kids were playing basketball while it was going by I smell setup but a good one.

Could be real.

I believe the shuttle only travelled at 1 or 2 mph through the streets so there would be plenty of time to step out and have a look. :)

Watching a retired old shuttle won't make them millionaires however playing ball might... I like their dedication even as far as playing in thongs.

Its a setup.

Yep, check the length of the shadows on the shuttle vs the length of the shadows on the kids. Sorry but photshop is everywhere now.

I can't see anything wrong with the shadows. The shuttle looks like the sun is to the top right and slightly behind, as it does for the boys, and in particular the ball. But did anyone ask why the person on the top right is on the roof and not looking at the shuttle? :)

I reckon the only setup is the kids are only pretending to play basketball and as soon as the shot was taken they rushed out to look at it.

The only thing that looks odd to me is that the shuttle seems to be awfully close to the house....what about the wings...? Unless there is some telephoto compression - but it doesn't look like a long focal length shot...

 Hey Tom , look at the non-existant shadows from the trees in the back ground , on the hill ( just above the shuttles nose ) Busted !!!
Still a great concept . Man if it trundled past here you would not be playing basketball , thats for sure ??? .

What the hell is going on with this forum... so many wonder photographers here producing so many wonderful photos and when something like this gets produced people scream photoshop / conspiracy / blah blah blah ... I'm sooooo disappointed.

Took me all of 20 minutes to just sit down and investigate this.

BTW: The house is on the confirmed travel path of the Endeavour on it's way to the LA Museum...

Nice work OIC!

I posted many of these pics on facebook, it was crazy how close it came to those houses- what lucky lucky people.

Here's a time-lapse showing just how close it came, it's awesome, watch it!!!

And here are some of the incredible piccies that I posted on fb! :eyepop:

"The Shuttle on it's final 12 mile journey to the California science centre doing a snails pace of 3 feet per second. "Space shuttle Endeavor is five stories high, 78 feet wide and 122 feet long. In order for tOV-105 to make the trip through downtown Los Angeles, 67 traffic lights had to be temporarily taken down and over 200 trees had to be removed from the area. An estimated 14,000 people lined the streets to see the space shuttle up close for the first time."

Here's a contribution encapsulating the union between a few of the IIS hot topics: night photography, timelapse and spaceships :)

Of course it's a setup for the photo, but it's a completely real photo.

Took a look around the Time Mag site after jjnettie's post about the rubber chicken (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=101206)...

Noticed that the Shuttle made it onto the list...

You can notice on the other side of the fence in the shadow there are four people at the front of their fence actually watching it. So use I would say a setup for the shot, but a real shot :)

Like the kangaroo moon shot though it does show people's natural reaction to a great photo is to doubt it. Sad to wonder why, but then there is so much photoshopping around on Facebook and the like that maybe we have come to believe everything we are sent is meant the be for light entertainment.

Sad indeed.

Apologies guys-n-gals... my intent was to not re-ignite a thread, but rather just add another photo to the list...

Well guys, I wasn't certain which post to necro... this one or http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=97857 ... I'll probably post just the link on the other one, if that's ok with the mod's.

Anyway... time for a new peice of shuttle related kit to travel through the streets of LA...
