Is it the LMC? You have to understand, being north of 0 deg, I don't recognise it :confuse2:

I'm sure I will with time... I'm looking forward to having a gander at a few south hem targets ;)

The background is a tiled pic of the Eta Carina nebula in the constellation of Carina. Near the southern cross.

Andy, a quick question. Which browser do you use? Just curious.

re;your question about the b/g pic. I and a few others run Firefox from *mozilla.org* and it gives you a great selection of extensions/addons, etc. one of which enables you to "view background image". Thought you might already know about it with your work, that's all.Safer browser all round. L.

Cool, I hadn't noticed that feature before, or if it was installed as an extension I must have forgotten about it.

Hiya - my work involves writing JavaScript active content, mainly for an Intranet of around 60,000 desktops (UK Govt, taxes). I am mostly involved in the R&D stages - I develop something, someone else gets the credit - that sort of thing. Not too suprisingly, the lack of imagination in the organisation means they run IE.

Being an active content writer, I've developed stuff for my own websites:

http://www.coxellis.freeserve.co.uk/
http://www.coxellis.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/

In the first of the above two links, the whole start page was an experiment in running pages entirely as Javascript library objects. In my astronomy pics site, I can just update an array with a picture's details and it's added.

I doubt if either page runs properly in firefox. I tried firefox out a while back and had problems with missing plugins and limited support for active content, so I switched back to IE. TBH, I could (and should) re-write the pages to support FireFox, but I'm just too busy...

I don't have an issue with security, my main computer is the laptop I'm typing this on and it is firewalled behind a router (NAT firewalled) and has it's own firewall anyway and I run a WEP based wireless LAN. I also use up to date virus software :)

So there you go. ;) I'll try it again sometme in the near future, but tbh, I manage fine with IE :D Generally speaking though, I'd agree firefox is the better product.

Cheers :)

Thanks Andy. Thought it might be something like that. Hope you do get around to rewriting and using Firefox later.
BTW, tried both your web sites. Displays O.K. Pics O.K. as well.

I'm going to have to give FireFox another try then - it could be that whatever issues they had with it were early developmental problems - generally speaking, as a browser I always preferred it.

I had problems with v0.9 and went back to IE, but v1.0 is great, my browser of choice now.

Hear hear for Thunderbird e-mail. Much better than Outlook Express and doesn't start MSN messenger everytime you run it !! Outlook Express is a real pain that way & my main reason for ditching it.
I also use Firefox browser 1.0 Seems ok, but IE6 is better for flash.
Tend to swithc between the two depending on what I'm viewing.

Cheers
