Hi All,

Imaged Jove last night in variable seeing, at least it was a comfortable temperature 18 C, Last week we had several days around 40 C with a high of 43 C.

Strangely my best RGB & 742nm IR data was my first set for the the night with Jove at only 30 degrees alt. There are at least 4 small white ovals resolved in the STB. There is a very interesting structure immediately following the GRS that prescribes a nice S-bend. The EZ, along the border of the NEB is quite chaotic, particularly in my IR data.

Thanks for looking.
Regards
Trevor

Hi Trevor,

Excellent images given the conditions, and very well processed to get that sort of detail in 5/10 seeing without introducing artifacts.

im not having any luck with imaging jupiter. Its in a really bad spot for me this year.

Amazing shot Trevor. Just think the before Voyager 1 & 2, shots like this were not possible, even with the big scopes. Well done!

Nice image Trev. Having to watch from the side lines this year.

Thanks Ivan, the various derot functions in WinJUPOS have opened up the possibility of achieving better signal to noise ratios such that even very ordinary data can still result in an overall improvement in resolved detail, better in fact than any one of the individual contributing RGB data sets. I still have a way to go in sorting this out, progress has been slow due to the lack of data I have had this apparition but I seem to be going in the right direction.

Thanks Asi, looking forward to applying this to Saturn.

Thanks Ray, time to start getting organized for Saturn.

Thanks Derek, clouds & mozzies, not a great combination, hope you catch a break soon.

Hi Mark, Jupiter may well be low but Saturn will climb very high for us this year, a fair trade off I think.

Thanks cazza, it certainly is worthwhile to reflect on just how far the quality of amateur work has come, in all fields of astro imaging.

Thanks Laurie, appreciate your comment.

Thanks Paul, reckon with all of the data you have from Cairns you will have no probs keeping busy for quite some time yet.
