Jupiter 8SE DMK618

Hello Everyone,

I attempted to image Jupiter only a couple of days after opposition and sharing my results. Looks like I just missed the GRS.

Taken with a 8SE, DMK618, RGB filters on a Orion color wheel with a IR cut filter, 2.5X TV powermate, 1 minute per channel.

Hi Marius,

A very good start. That rig you have is capable of very good images when the seeing cooperates, you just have to be persistent to get lucky.

You can find out the position of the GRS, and the moons, using the WinJUPOS application.

One thing, you mention RGB filters plus IR cut. Does that mean you are using two filters at once?

I agree Ivan, I did have a image of Jupiter captured about a year ago that had a bit more detail in the cloud bands, so I'm (like everyone) in the mercy of the atmosphere.

Yeah, when I say I used RGB filters and a IR filter, I had a IR cut filter on the 2.5X powermate and the R, G & B filters on the colour wheel.
I was capturing each channel through Red+IRcut, Green+IRcut and Blue+IRcut, then a minute of just through the IR cut where the colour wheel was left empty.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm under the impression that using the IRcut will generate more detail, cutting out the IR wavelength which focusses slightly at a different point from the visible light.

Check the specs on your RGB filters -- they most probably have IR cut built in. If so, you won't need to combine them with a separate IR cut, and less filters = slightly better image quality.
