Hi,

Here is a quick timelapse I put together of the Solar Eclipse 2012 from shots I took. I never intended on doing a timelapse as I had thought that the dynamic range would have been to great and operating two cameras would be enough of a mission.

But as it turned out the smoke from fires across Arnhem Land made for some spectacular viewing without glasses or filters.

This was taken from Elcho Island on the north coast of Arnhem Land in the NT.

I just checked your location, and cannot believe how close you were to being in the path of Totality......... !

That's stunning, and the timelapse is great too. I saw sunrise of a near-annular eclipse in Scotland through thin mist, and it was great (and lucky) to be able to shoot landscape eclipse images without filtering the camera. It means you get the landscape and the partial eclipse together, unusual and pretty! The same effect has worked an absolute treat for you. :thumbsup: Real compensation for narrowly missing totality!

Thanks for all the great comments. Inspiration to go out and do more.

I would have made the effort to go about 30klms south to get in the path of totality, but I would have needed a boat and a bulldozer to make the road.

It was still an amazing sight totality or not. Next one near Tennant Creek should produce some amazing shots, especially if we can catch it near the Devil's Marbles. I'll be making the trip for that one I reckon.
