Hi all,

for the benefit of all our Northern Hemisphere friends and aussie newbies getting into astronomy here is a photo I took of a relatively dark sky facing south from the out skirts of Wagga Wagga.

I've labelled some of the highlights not all, the ones I've pointed out can be seen with the naked eye. There are many more hidden gems and jewels that can easily be observed with binoculars or a small telescope.

Any feedback and comments welcome, thanks for looking :)

Nice shot! I'm just back inside, after trying to make out some of those through the clouds myself. I think I'll have better luck tomorrow night.

BTW, your "Achernar" is actually Canopos, Achernar is the bright one above the SMC in your picture.

Cheers
Steffen.

 Thanks for that Steffen! Once i get back to my computer I'll edit it

When I stepped out to go to work tonight I noticed a few clear patches but it wasn't great, we've not had a clear break in the weather for a while now. Good time to catch up on Astronomy News and old photographs :)

Crago Observatory is open to all visitors this weekend (weather permitting). I hope it's clear enough so I can go and enjoy a night out :) before the end of the year and the world ;)

Nice.
You haven't labeled the unique-to-the-southern-hemisphere black light plane trail! ;)

Very nice! The Lambda Cent (Running Chicken), Dark Doodad, and Tarantula Nebulae are all naked eye too. Might be nice to mark the SCP too.
