I am in Canberra and have a Meade Lx200R 8" GPS with UHTC coatings, in excellent working order, with accessories (power supply, RS232 and USB connector, automatic focuser, eyepieces, illuminated eyepiece, 1.25" diagonal, various plossl eyepieces, aluminium dew shield, 8 x 50 finder scope with helical focus), field tripod and vibration isolator pads. Upgraded the secondary mirror with Bob's knobs for collimation.

I recently sent it to Bintel for collimation (after Bob-knobbing it) and they updated the software on the Autostar II controller and base-computer, greased and serviced it in general, they came back saying it had great optics.

The plastic knobs on the tripod are worse for wear, the thread itself is fine but you may want to get some replacement knobs because it gets hard to tighten and loosen them in cold weather (without gloves that it...hard on the hands).

I'm happy for you to take a look at it if you like, have photos that I can email to you. It's a great unit. Sending via post is risky, I have the box for the scope and base but not the tripod or accessories. I can consider it but it gets expensive because of a) the weight and b) insurance and finally c) the time to organise it all - which I'm short on - sorry  I'm not ruling it out but would prefer a local sale if I can get it.

I'd be happy to part with it for $2,000 - but am happy to come to an arrangement.

I'll leave it up for a few weeks and then will take it down to see if I can sell it at another time.

Thanks Brian,

Yes, I've had a few PM's stating the same. I have an interested person in Sydney and will see what the new year brings.

Merry Christmas,
Simon.

The important thing that many may not realise is that the LX200R scopes were the last large consumer SCT's built by Meade's long-established US craftsmen in California. LX's since (including all ACF models, which are actually just the R's renamed as a result of a lawsuit that Meade lost), are a product of their Mexican factory, which was set up to take advantage of cheaper labour South of the border. If I didn't already have a 10" LX200R I'd snap this one up - these are beautiful scopes, IMHO.

Put it away till after the Xmas holiday. People are cash strapped at this time of year. You will get your money for it, rather than giving it away. These are a really great scope.

Wisdom and sage advice. Yes, I'll do that.
