I am now learning to use GIMP to process images so I thought I would try to stretch the image curves to bring out more detail than my 1st attempt.

GIMP is so much better than the software I was using, I am still learning my way around the software.

90 x 20sec subs at ISO 1600
20 Darks, Flats and Bias
Stacked in DSS processed in GIMP

12” LX200 (alt/az setup no guiding)
Sony Nex-3 Camera

What were you using before?

(I use GIMP from time to time, since I use Linux as my desktop).

Hi Astro_Bot, the software i was using was a 15 year old version of corel photopaint it was difficult to adjust the image levels without loosing detail. I now just need to update my computer its an old pentium 2 running 1.2ghz with 2gb ram and only 10 gb free on hdd. It runs so slow it took 8 hours to stack the 90 subs for this shot and another 3 to process.

That's a great shot Wayne. The detail is really very good.

You might like Cinepaint (http://www.cinepaint.org/), which is a GIMP offshoot, free, used by major film companies (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and others) - processes in 32bit.
