The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC)

Taken with a modded 20D and 135mm lens from Coolabine, Queensland. 12 x 5min exposures @ ISO800 f/3.2. Initial calibration, alignment, stacking and conversion to Tiff done in ImagesPlus 3 with a Median combine. The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is a nearby irregular galaxy, and is a satellite of the Milky Way. It has a mass equivalent to approximately 10 billion times the mass of our Sun, making it roughly 1/10 as massive as the Milky Way, and a diameter of about 14,000 light-years.
