blink comparator

Hi

I recently took a few photos over consecutive nights of where Pluto was supposed to be in the sky. They are about 2- 3 minute exposures using a canon 550D.

What i want to do now is to actually find Pluto in them - but of course the images don't completely overlap and i don't know how to make a blink comparator from any of the software that i have. Any ideas anyone?

Do you have any video editing software that will accept jpegs and then slow down the play back to make a time lapse.
That will work as a blink comparator.

I have solveig multimedia but i only have 2 worthwile photos so a time lapse would be a bit difficult I think

Try copying them and keeping one copy safe -on a thumb drive.
Open the new copy in paint and crop the fields as close to similar as possible (use stars as a guide) -save as another name in a new folder,ie 'flick'.
Open the new folder, right click on one of the images and open with 'Windows Photo Viewer'.
Click the next picture button repeatedly and the image should flick between the two images (if they are the only ones in the folder). Practice the croping to line up the stars.
Keep you originals safely away though.

More ideas if you can save them as .tiff or .fit

Do you have Cartes du Ciel?
You can blink your images against a known star field then compare....

Pixinsight has a Blink function. A request to Pixinsight.com will get you a 45 day trial licence.

Open one pic then open the second, copy, then paste it over as a new layer and in properties take transparency to about 30% or so. Line up the stars and find the one that won't line up. No blink required. Most photoshop type programs have all the necessary tools.

Hi,

Try the Microsoft Gif Animator. Its free and you can define duration of each image, load multiple images etc. But you need to save the images as gif first. there will be loss of quality with gif's but should be enough to discern differences.
