NGC1491 Cathedral of light

Hello,

AIC2011 was last weekend and I feel like I have fully recovered. It was great to see Mark Bolton and Stuart from the Boss group had come all the way from AU to be there.

AIC inspired me to dig out some old data on am image I never really finished. It is not as deep as I like but it has some interesting features. There is a blister (bubble) around the 11th mag center star and a waterfall light structure at around 11:00 oc.

Standard Hubble palette with synthetic RGB stars.

Thanks for taking the time to look . .

Oh wow Ken, a beautiful image indeed. Cathedral of Light is so perfect a name. Hope Bolts & Stu didn't lead you astray. After seeing Stus pics from the conference I can imagine Bolts has probably got a few goodies with him, no doubt will hear more about it at Leyburn. It appears Stu was taken with one of the fine 'scopes on display and has it on the plane as he heads home to New Zealand.
Love your work.
Peter

Thanks for all the kind comments,

AIC was the largest ever with over 300 attendees and 35 exhibitors. The workshops and presentations were all great and the networking was amazing. Astrophotographers are the nicest group of people on the planet!

The central area is really flooded with energy - I could have toned it down but something was ringing in the back of my mind when I was processing it - something that I heard from David Malin at AAIC.

"Respect the light"

I wanted to see if I could try to display the huge dynamic range (right to the brink) and still show the details while doing it. I appeciate your comments very much as it shows I did push to the limits . . .

Thanks again for the suggestions as they say what people are thinking when they view the image. Also, I have two processing monitors - both are calibrated with Spyder2Pro and the image looks a bit different in both monitors. I tried to split the brightness difference between the two.

Beautiful image Ken, the central region really looks surreal and so 3D.

Looking around for info on this object, the accompanying images were nothing in comparison to yours! Just brilliant.

It's now IOTW.

You guys make me blush! What is interesting about this region is the central star is blowing a bubble of sorts. It shows up well in Ha and OIII and my real question is how much brightness is lost from inside the bubble?

Thanks again for the comments, they are so inspiring to me.
