Saturn March 12th in good seeing

Hi All,

The predictions all pointed to good seeing this morning so I was up at 12:30pm local and imaged Saturn over a 2 hr 20 min session of good seeing.

In an attempt to hi-light the structure in the tail of the storm I have been more heavy handed with the sharpening than I would have like.

Captured 5 RGB & 807nm IR data sets and have attached links to animations, both RGB & 807nm IR.
In the animations Dione & Tethys can also be seen, look at the still images posted here to identify them. Enceladus is also in some of these images but is very faint.

Have not had much sleep in the last 48 hrs and am starting to feel the pinch, must be getting old.

Thanks for looking
Regards
Trevor

Thanks Mark, the C14 is a top instrument used by some of the best planetary imagers around the world so I am sure it will work well for you also.

As an addition to the data I sent yesterday, I also noticed a faint plume in storm alley South that I have hi-lighted in these 2 RGB data sets.

This faint Southern plume is close to the CM at 16:56 UTC. Previously on Feb 22nd I sent in an R channel image that also had a faint Southern plume but the seeing was not good for that capture. This particular plume is at a very different CMIII.

Regards
Trevor

Wonderful images Trevor, thanks for the views. I will have to brighten my screen, as Enceladus doesn't show, and the others just. All the best.

Thanks very much Rob, I reckon images look pretty gruesome when they have been over sharpened, they can end up with incredibly ugly double edges on one side and with Saturn also on one ansae. A mate of mine in the UK refers to them as edgeifacts. These show more grain than I would normally go with but my main aim was to produce measurable detail within this fainter section of the storm trail.

Thanks very much Lester, I should really have processed the Moons separately but just didn't have the time, they are faint for sure.

More really top quality images Trevor. Hey, don't start feeling old just yet mate - we need you to keep up a heroic schedule so we can find out what is going on out there. Regards Ray

Thanks very much Matt, there is just so much happening within this storm and also elsewhere in Saturns atmosphere.

Thanks very much Ray, here in the outback we are having a run of unsettled weather that is giving me a bit of a break with my imaging, a chance to recharge the batteries so to speak. The big 6 zero looms latter this year but I suppose it is just another number.
