Solar prominence

The sun put on quite a show this morning...with a faint but really large prom that looped up as the day went on.

Full disk image can be seen here

Well done Peter. I imaged this too but did not get anything as bright as your image. I could not move the etalon far enough to make that prominence look really bright. Your image contains lovely illumination and great detail.

Thanks Guys.

I actually didn't notice the prom until I'd virtually finnished my imaging session...and was mucking about with the doppler shifter when I first noticed it....

I'm using double stacked 90mm system, hence could get the required brightness while on band. The twin etalons also give even field illumination...nice when things work as advertised!

Yeah it was hard to see just in the eye piece. On the capture I just could not get enough brightness on band. Glad someone captured it though.

Thank you for the feed-back guys.

Iv'e added a higher-res image link to the original page..... complete with an
accurately scaled planet earth image (NASA data) to give the flare's size a little perspective.....

Hope you like it!

It's hard to get my head around the sheer size of that prominence compared to Earth!

Peter - that's an amazing image, and one of the clearest amateur pics that I've seen of the Sun. The size of the prominence is mind-blowing!
Well done.

Chris
