The Sun September 18 - AR11106 and 11108

The sun is showing active regions 11106 and 11108 today. Lots of activity around AR11108.

This is also first light for my new Thousand Oaks off axis solar filter for the C11. Got to learn a little yet about process I suspect.

Seeing was not the best, I think as the sun gets up earlier I will have to too to get the best seeing.

Nice image - I do appreciate what you and the other Solar imagers in Australia post, it gives me and probaly others in Europe a heads up on whats comming our way, weather permiting.
A question if I may:-
In the equipment credit for the Halpha full disk shot of AR's 11106 & 11108, SM40, ED80 & B1200, is the B1200 the Lunt Blocking Filter ?
I ask 'cos, I have an SM90 on a TV101, with BF10, and would prefer a slightly larger BF ( for use when I binoview ), the BF15 from Coronado is quite pricey, so perhaps the Lunt B1200 would work. I didn't realise the front Etalon from Coronado and rear Blocking Filters from Lunt could be mixed and matched.

Thanks Carl. Yes its a Lunt B1200 and I there's no problem that I'm aware of mixing Lunt and Coronado. Bintel checked with Lunt before they would sell me the B1200 knowing that I already had the SM40.

I appreciate the info, it's good to know the Lont B1200 is an option as it's considerably less expensive than the BF15 and Lunt Quality Control seems to be very good from what I read on the various forums.

So cool. Looks like an orange texture - super fine details Wasn't aware it was safe to point a C11 into the sun even with a solar filter in the front. Are you using the full aperture or just a small offaxis mask? How's the temp inside the tube handling it?

Its an off axis filter Marc. I'm told once you get over 8" there is no advantage in a full aperture filter as the seeing generally isn't good enough to give much in the way of sharp frames. The limit might actually be as low as 4 or 5" depending on which source you refer to, but an 8" scope is limited to a 3" off axis filter, so they tend to go full aperture...

To be honest I haven't checked the tube temperature... my old C8 with a full aperture Baader Film filter used to get just slightly warm, the C11 only has a 4" aperture in the filter, so the effect should be at least 1/4 of what it was on the C8 (based on filter area and the increase size of the scope).
