Does your 'Aldi' headlamp work??

Hi Folks

I see a lot of shopping reports on Aldi specials here lately.

I noticed someone mentioned $10 head lamps,So I got two,I noticed the had two variations,I got two similar to the 'Energizer' ones Woolworths sell for $33

At first,I thought-yes-a great buy,But after the supplied batteries ran low,I changed them only to find the white light does not work, the red is so dull, that I can not see any more than 12 inches in front of my eyes.

I have not opened the other one yet.Are others finding the same??or is mine just a 'dud'.I think I will stick to the good old 'energizer' ones they have not let me down,Seems you get what you pay for.

Be interested to hear how others have gone after they changed batteries,I had a few different sets in,had a fiddle around-same results.

Cheers Chris

Might be a "dud".

I bought two and both seem to work as expected. But the quality of materials is very low - no surprise there!

Pulled one apart, disconnected the bright white LED and painted red paint over the fainter white LED. Took a bit of care to get it back together without breaking anything.

EDIT:- I remember now. With the few layers of red paint, the LED no longer fitted into the reflector housing - I had to open the hole out a little.

But both are still working just fine. Batteries still OK.

re cheap headlamps

Ok,Eric-thanks for that,I will open the other one today.

And try and use the 'dud' for astro work.

Yes,the do appear 'cheap'-think I will stick with the 'energizer' ones in the future.

cheers Chris
