Smile Barlowed SR 4mm...(light relief)

'twas a cloudy ish night so I wondered if I might try Barlowing my old SR 4mm and look at Saturn.. Clouds had cleared for a sec. Quick alignment on the GOTO and there was saturn nearly in the field of view of my 25mm GSO (in an f8 4.5" newt). Ha! A few adjustments and we had it. Tracking just bearable (if only it moved in steps less than 1 minute). Pop in the X2 Barlow and 4mm SR and there it was. Contrast a little washed out (I mean at only x450 that might be expected in 4.5") Image not as sharpe as with the the 9.7mm meade barlowed, but a nice sized image.Tracking could not quite cope and the cloud rolled in very dark so time to have a quick look at the moon and race in before the rain hit.

Enjoyable momment and not very serious but i was suprised i could see anything!

cheers

Nothing wrong with pushing the limits every now and then

The seeing has been quite good lately (at least average) due to the lack of jetstream, so it's as good a time as any to push the magnification right up!
