Thumbs up Canberra Sunset - Dec 11

Thought I'd make a contribution to this section of the forum.

Haven't contributed a non-astro pic here before, so here goes.

Couldn't resist catching the big display in the western sky shortly after 8pm tonight.

The really interesting thing here is the different cloud types all crowding into the one small space of sky.

Very pretty with the naked eye.

Captured on auto with an Olympus "Camedia" C-7070 7.1 megapixel digicam

Nice image Matt, all I could see this evening was smoke haze, low dark and brooding, I've been wanting to take a few snaps of the sunset for a few weeks now, but getting home late and putting the kids to bed I haven't had the time to get out before the sun drops too low. I have a nice view of the Brindabellas but have to trek to top of Oakey Hill, it's a bit of a walk from my place. The recent bush fires should make the sunsets very red with all the smoke and haze about.

Your shot shows no signs of the smoke haze, must on the North side ? as it is still quite thick down my way.

Nice piccy Matt, I was watching the sunset as well this evening. It certainly was a fantastic sight with all the colours and cloud types and then those teasing patches of clear blue sky behind. Did you notice to the north east how dark and stormy it was, no rain though.

cheers

A great collection of cloud types.
Did you get any rain out of it?

Thanks guys.

The good thing about these great sunsets is they can make even the most average photographer look like a star!

Nice to hear from you, Paul. This was actually taken from Rivett.

Ric... it looked awesome to the south and east last night from my vantage point. Definitely looked as though it would deliver some of the wet stuff but alas... nothing in the gauge.

Very nice, beautiful colours.

Just a question, what whitebalance setting do you use, Auto?

Hi Matt, we got a sprinkle this morning as I was riding to work but I'm sure it was evaporating before it hit the ground. It felt nice in the air as I was riding along

cheers
