NSW Central Coast Casual Observing

The idea of this thread is to provide a link to information for those around the Central Coast (and Sydney-Newcastle etc.) of any proposed Observing Nights for the Mangrove Mountain (Pony Club site).
[ I will start a similar thread for proposed informal Astro camping trips.
Thinking it is best to keep them separate]

If you subscribe to this thread (under thread tools) you can receive an email notification when a new post is entered.

This may help with the problem of short notice for irregular observing sessions.

Mangrove Mountain tonight 10/1/2016

Its been a while, and I know people have been wanting some local observing for a while, and I see tonights forcast looks OK.

So I am happy to open up the Pony Club tonight if there is enough interest.

Sorry for the late notice, but sometimes you have to run on the spur of the moment.

Reply if interested, but being Sunday I am not expected too much.
Happy either way.

Allan, thanks for starting this thread but I will not be able to make it tonight.
The pony club is still the best location for many of us and I would like to get up there as often as possible.
It looks like a good night for viewing.

John

Confirmation

OK, we are Go then.

I plan to get there just before sunset, probably around 8pm.
It will still be light enough for setup for an hour or so.

I expect to pack up around mid-night. (depending on consensus)

So anyone wishing to come and/or go within that time slot are welcome.

Joe, try and bring your scope this time.

Sorry can't make tonight due to commitments but good idea Al and will be up for it very soon, as haven't got scope out for awhile and need a fix.
Hope tonight is good for you guys. Should be great seeing no jetstream to speak of.

Thanks Allan

Thanks Allan. As you may have seen, I am in the middle of building a truss 14" Newt and will be looking for places to use it (if it works). Can't make it tonight but will be hanging out to use it in the next month or so. Will look for the subscribe link.

Thanks for organising this Allan, and although I can't make it tonight, I will keep an eye out for future possibilities to make it up the Mountain!

Had a good session last night, the dew finally won around 12:30.

A big to Allan for opening up the site, Geoff for his witty conversation (congratulations on 9 meteors), Joe for his patience and advice (even though it means my wallet will get a lot lighter ). I know I learned quite a bit and I'm reasonably sure that Terri did as well.

Being my first "Star party" I didn't quite know what to expect, but everyone made it a joy to stay out getting damp until 1:30 am.

So what is the current light pollution status up there now?
Is that collage development actually happening?

Thanks,

Pony Club Saturday 30 January

7 timer shows a cloudless sky for this Saturday (30th Jan).
However, it also show Thunder storms.
Moon is not up until around midnight, so this is potentially a goer.

Just Giving notice,
so just lets watch the sky to see which is more likely.

I can be ready to go at short notice.

NOTE also, potential camping trip to Bretti is on the cards for some time over the next two weeks. (See separate thread)
