Comet C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy 29th December 2014

My last hurrah probably.. been a lot of fun over the last few nights.

Wide and crop to show M79 and NGC1886:

http://philhart.smugmug.com/CometsAndMeteors/Comets

Heavily processed.. some dust some artefacts.. hard to tell which is which!

And animation:

https://vimeo.com/115624255

Wish we still had eight hours dark sky on it but even two shows some nice evolution of the tail near the head.

Phil

Great work, Phil.

The kink in the tail moves along and evolves.
It seems that 2 mins exposure is the right time for this comet.
I need to push my equipment if I get another go at it.

kind regards, Alan.

Certainly one of the best images I have seen of this comet Phil. Cracking detail in the tail and very nicely rendered. The animation is excellent too.

Thanks Peter. I know you don't use those words lightly. I've learnt a lot the last few days but could easily spend hours more re-crunching the data!

That's superb Phil. Great animation. The tail seems to be very dynamic. Lots going on in there. Hoping to have a crack at it in Jan.

Excellent images and the animation is great. Love the tail detail. If this is your last hurrah, you've gone out with a bang.

That's unbelievable Phil, very impressive comet imaging Great animation too. It's fascinating how rapidly the tail structure is changing.

Terrific shot Phil. That's a ripper.

First time I have seen an animation of a comet showing the tail moving away from the comet. Superb.

Greg.
