M20+M8, ED80 +F-6.3 reducer

Hi All,
Ive been trying to get these two together for a long time, this is the result of using a Celestron F-6.3 focal reducer with the ED80, and having the Camera mounted vertically.

Pix. 6 x 6 Min. ISO800, DF removed, CWB, ED80, Canon EOS300D (mod.) guided with LX200/10"+ MX7C.

Just a question about your focal reducer, I presume its meant for a SCT f10, and reduces that to f6.3. So your ED80 would be working at less than f6.3? Is that correct?

Hi All,
Thanks for the comments, sory to hear your are not active at the moment Alex, and Lester-yes the Focal reducer is made for an F-10 SCT, which gives about F-5 on the ED80 which is normally F-7.5, big thing is is does the coma correction which the single element reducers wont, eg.(MOGG reducer) and will fit the ED80 using an "ANTARES" 2" adaptor which isnt expensive, there is a cheaper reducer which will work also, look at:

Mike, who ive had some dealings with (bought my adaptor from him) and will send normal mail, which a lot of overseas firms wont.
Im attaching another (cropped) picture taken at the same time (different lot though) seems to have less guiding error (stars in M8) although its a bit confusing because the stars adjcent to M8 are not distorted, any ideas.

Actually I like the first one just shows a bit more variation with Milky Way at top right. Both very good.

That sight has some very reasonabley priced refractors.

I wasent happy with the guiding in the last Pix, so tried different settings, big improvement, nice round stars in M8 (well more or less) shows what too much agressive guiding can do (former Pix.).

Camera was mounted Vertically, but processing it comes out horizontal of course, Ive noted that some distrotion occurs in rotating the picture in PSP software.

Nice pics , I think the distortion your talking about maybe field rotation .
If you are guiding on a star away from the center of the one your imaging and your polar alignment isnt good enough it can cause the area further from your guide star to show some rotation .
I can't work out why i can't get a Meade 6.3 FR to work on the 5" refractor I have here seems to give terrible images its second hand so I wonder if someone has taken it appart and messed it up.

Yes an interesting point, ill check it out, as regards the F-6.3 Focal reducer why not try it out (during daytime) on your LX200 that should tell you if its O.K. or not.
