Heads up HUGE Bunnings cases

I know, you've heard it all before, we all know Bunnings stocks pelican style cases from time to time but are never consistent with stock.

This time, at least at our Launceston store, they have the Mother of all Cases.

Stated outer dimensions (Somewhat innacurate but huge none the less) 800 x 525 x 300.

I did a quick measure and came up at just over 700 x 500 x 300 Inside.

Note that I didn't remove the pluck foam (the case is full of pluck foam!!) to see if there were any significant protrusions inside due to structural reinforcing.

They have a pull up handle and trolley wheels a la airport style baggage cases. Price is just $199 I'm on my way back to grab one (had to measure my gear first)...

Super Cheap Auto also carries a range of Pelican style cases in three sizes. I got one suitable for a DSLR and four lenses plus bits for $55.

I have mine now, detailed measurements of the inside: minimums are 710 x 510 x 300. The case has a slight taper so the top dimensions are a little bigger at 720 & 530 , if you ignore the screw bosses in the lid and wheel/handle pockets you have 320mm deep.

Actual outer dimensions are 790 x 600 x 360, proving Chinese mm are slightly different to Australian ones, probably why they build the bums the wrong shape in chinese trousers ...

There's not much in the bottom that intrudes (see photo), the bottom of the case is also nicely reinforced.

Not all the foam is pluck there are a total of 5 pieces, one 40mm solid, one 80mm solid, 2 x 80 mm pluck and a 40mm waffle.

The extendable trolley handle is a little on the flexy side (see photo), not sure how durable that piece will be.

The lid is a little flexible but has screw bosses (see photo) that could be used to add some ply for additional strenth if desired. Stands up vertically nicely, a space saver in my application.

Weight is listed on the carton as 18KG.
Latches are plentiful and seem solid, I'm a happy camper!!

Oh boy they are large.
I resisted the urge so Bunnings Stafford still have 3.
I asked and they should be available at all stores at the moment.

I've move the LX in, I probably should have offset slightly to leave room for accessories but there's still tons of room left.

The extending handle is very flexy with any weight in the case, but on the plus side it's in a frame of sorts and could be easily removed and replaced perhaps with a plywood copy.

Looks like a clone of a Pelican 1650, but since I'm in Zurich I can't check the size till I get home Monday.

Do the SCA cases have pluck foam inside?

If you read back a few posts (#5) Ken you'll see I've given fairly specific inside measurements.

still yet to put the gear in the bags but i wanted to show how large they are, and almost how large to fit the tripod from the eq8 but i could be dreaming as well. I think I could fit by having it at the lowest setting and taking off the pins at the top of the tripod. this is how stupid i am i forgot that i already put the starlapse in a smaller case the same as the one boxed in the picture. so the " spare" case i have now will either take the tripod with modification or a few smaller scopes
