[Pixinsight] image integration to remove asteroid

I have an image that I still haven't finished processing from Astrofest. When I did my usual PI process there was a mysterious rainbow streak that we concluded was Vesta moving through the frame over the imaging period.

I'm now trying to process it out using PI. Attached image is L integration of all subs showing the locations of Vesta over 2 nights.

I'm sure there's a way using the ImageIntegration rejections, but I can't think of it. Yes, I'm talking to you, Rick

Hi Troy,

What I do with satellite trails that won't reject out cleanly is draw a white line (value 1.0) over them with the PixelMath d2seg() function. That makes them reject nicely without having to push the rejection parameters too hard and take out good data with the bad. The same thing should work for your asteroid but it would probably be easier to make a white image and CloneStamp copy it over the asteroid in each of your subs.

Cheers,
Rick.

I'd leave it in. It's a cool record of it.

Oh dear. Completely lost me there. Will have to look into that a little more.

I agree, and do intend to do a process with it in, but with LRGB it looks horrible. If I can figure out a way to get rid of it, I'll then play with an edit that shows it moving through (anim GIF maybe?).

1. Make a white image (PixelMath expression "1", create new image ticked, drop on one of your subs.)

2. CloneStamp over the asteroid in each (registered) sub using the white image as the source

3. Integrate as normal and all those white areas should be rejected

This works pretty well for satellite trails. It may not work as well for things that don't move as much between subs but it is your best shot.

Put the final image in Photoshop and clone stamp or MAYBE Repair stamp over it? Easy fix in the final image

I'm going to pretend I didn't just read that... the PI Mafia would lynch me - I'd probably find a B33 in my bed! See what I did there

I did like the B33 comment, Troy. You're smarter than you look
