Central DS now selling mono DSLR's (cooled)

At this stage it looks like it is only in their canon range (no A7s version) so 6d cooled and mono, 600d, 5dIII although in their article they claim to have 'discovered' a method that will be fine for Nikon sony and canon.

http://www.centralds.net/cam/?p=8561

Cost appears to be an extra $600+ or so on already modified cameras http://www.centralds.net/cam/?post_type=product

Benefits obviously resolution, sensitivity and access to large sensors - disadvantages loss of microlensing.

Interesting stuff.

Interesting. The loss of the microlenses could be a big deal though. They seem to nearly double the QE of CCDs.

I have to say though I haven't seen a decent mono DSLR shot yet though. DO you know of some?

Also of interest is Fuji released a full spectrum version of the XT1. Be good for infrared, astrophotography. 16mp APSc Sony Exmor with Xtans colour array.

Luis Campos has been pushing the boundaries in cooling and debayering DSLR's and so have Central.

I think the only disadvantage to the DSLR mono is the weight and the potentially lower QE.

We have not seen many images yet because people are only starting to get their hands on them now.

They look impressive.

It makes sense to go down this path to a point. That's where all the R and D is. For example Sony's new 42.4mp backside illuminated full frame sensor. If that were an Astro CCD cam it would cost US$60,000.
