Didn't have great star data but attempted to add some coloured stars. The bigger yellow ones seemed to work but not a lot of blue. I'm thinking the Ha star profiles were just a bit small, despite reducing and saturating the LRGB stars somewhat. Keen to hear of other tips here. I used a NB star mask and blended the a and b channels of the LRGB stars with the a and b channels of the SHO image (Rick Stevenson put me onto this). Not really too desperate to have heaps of star colour given what is around it, but would be nice to have better PI tactics to get it working better. Anyway here is something of a last iteration of this: https://www.astrobin.com/416777/D/?nc=user
I like the Astrobin version, but the RGB stars look to be all white to me.
Nice Lagoon none-the-less
Thanks Peter. There is just some fringing on the brighter ones and some are yellow, but yes most are white. If I saturated too much the big blue fringed stars turned all blue (no core) and the mostly subdued outer edges of the star masked areas tended to show up. Thinking I should either saturate the LRGB more and then blend or reduce the LRGB star sizes.
Realized the star color wasn’t getting into the recombined L,a,b image enough so tweaked things there and got some colour. Results here: https://www.astrobin.com/full/416777/F/
Thanks Andy. I've added a bit more core to the stars now. https://www.astrobin.com/full/416777/H/
Better maybe? Also the core is bit clearer and its a tad more subdued. Appreciate the comments as I go slowly mad creating versions!
Perhaps it is a tiny bit over-saturated for maximum visual appeal, but the contrast and sharpness are excellent: all the fine detail is there.
If you rotate the image 90 degrees anticlockwise, the "creature from the lagoon", a demonic winged figure of great size centred on the hourglass, appears very sharply, complete with fingers on the ends of the arching wings.

Thanks so much for the thoughtful comments I was concerned I had undersaturated it in the latest go around. Re did it all and got this less saturated version: https://www.astrobin.com/416777/Q/?nc=user
I think seeing the image on different screens confuses the issue too. Astrobin always seems to me to present a duller image, which I’m sure isn’t the case.
The details are still there but somehow it looks less interesting to me? Maybe there’s a bit of reading detail into the noise that perhaps isn’t there? Have been playing with crops and colour too
Very nice colours Ben. I often find that NB for well-known objects (eg horsehead) looks out of place, but this one gives a refreshing new look to the Lagoon.
Thanks Geoff. It’s a bit of a struggle for me between wanting a vibrant picture and something that looks more like a ‘real’ nebula, although of course it can, and should, be both.
