And yet there's more...

Moved the camera around 90 degrees to get the wide field.
No cropping.
The FOV is about 110 by 83 minutes.

50 of 4 min subs. GAIN=50 BIAS=50

Here's my go at the Horeshead. Over 2 nights 19 & 20 Jan (chucked the 2 hours of subs from the 18th as of a focusing stuff up, or lack thereof).
Nearly 6 hours of 90sec subs on ASI071Pro with GT81 refractor.
Captured with APT. I tried dithering and I think it worked, but not sure of the parameters yet.
Processed in PI. For calibration files I only used bias frames, no darks. Tried drizzling - wow they are big files! I'm still getting blotchy backgrounds with my processing - maybe I'm overcooking it? Tried TGVdenoising.

More detail on
https://www.astrobin.com/330285/0/

Why does Alnitak spread so much. Is it a reflection of the object, or is limitations of the scope / camera ??

Thanks for looking, Chris

Wowza!!

Amazing!!

I am going to say 'the best image of the Horse Head Nebula I have ever seen"

Well done Chris.

And by the way, that area of sky is naturally blotchy (lots of dust).

Um. You should be in PR Peter! But thanks all the same.
I found pushing it out to 5-6hours made a big improvement. And TGVdenoising.

It looks fantastic Chris. You got the faint dust clouds to come out which is the tricky part. Well done!

To Peter and Chris
Both excellent captures.
I only hope I can do half as good when I get my act together.

Well done ALEX

That is the best Alnitak so far!

Alnitak is a blue giant and I think that is where colour cameras rule.
By setting the gain (ISO) correctly you get the best dynamic range and thus the best natural colour.

I love the spider vane diffractions as well.

My satellite internet has again become unstable.
Only able to get service a few minute every 2 or 3 days.

So quickly, Alex. You want to pick Feb. target?

Your image of the laptop taken with the phone deserves it :-)

I took my approach I suppose to get something going for beginers in astro photography I suppose similar to the photo competition where a subject is put up and members then have something to work towards.
Also in my case the more lead time the better as it may take me three or four weeks to find the suggested object for the month...and certainly just finding something and setting up to capture that can take some effort.
But I think the idea of something to look forward to could be fun.
Alex
