A new free online magazine for Southern observers

The Astro.Society of S Africa (ASSA) has inaugurated a large-format all-colour online magazine called "Nightfall". Here is what the first issue contains:
*
* Magda Streicher • A visit to the 4-metre Herschel Telescope on the Canary Islands
* Susan Young • A Bevy of Galaxies in Pavo
* Dale Liebenberg • Astro-image of the Month: NGC 4945 Centaurus
* Barbara Cunow • The Jack Bennett Catalogue in One Montage
* Free Online Observing Catalogs & Resources
* Cloud Avoidance 101 • Online Visual Observing with SLOOH's 20-inch videoscopes
* Free Downloadable Sky Atlases • by Toshimi Taki, Micharl Vlasov, José Tòrrés
* Live from La Silla • La Silla, VLT Paranal, & ALMA
* Dr. Ian Glass • Visit to La Silla 1990
* Galaxies in Cosmic Voids • Markarian 1477 and the Byurakan Observatory in Armenia
* The Phoenix Dwarf Galaxy
* Riding with the Valkyries • A Nightfall observer’s challenge list: O runaway stars
* Legacy Library • Fritz Zwicky's 1937 paper On the Masses of Cluster of Nebula
* What’s New in the Literature •*Young Africans in Astronomy

If you take a good close look at the cover-page image of the M8 region and it looks familiar, it should. Your very own Murray Parkinson contributed it! Thanks again, Murray!!

Nightfall is the cheapest ticket to Southern skies you can buy. If you want one of our great barbie-beating S African braais thrown in, you have to buy airline tickets.

Thanks Dana,

A wonderful read!

At a generous 116 pages that is not a magazine - that is a book!

And that doesn't count the other resources such as the list of catalogs that supplement it.
Remarkable!

Congratulations to you and the contributors for creating it.

Thanks to the ASSA for making it available to us.

Best regards

Congratulations Dana.

An excellent read and resource. Must have taken a lot of effort by all contributors and support staff to put together.

I shall take my time read and absorb it all.

Steve.
