Corona Australis region

"This is the Corona Australis Molecular Cloud, a dark molecular cloud with many embedded reflection nebulae, including NGC 6729, NGC 6726–7, and IC 4812. A star-forming region of around 7000 M☉, it contains Herbig–Haro objects (protostars) and some very young stars. About 430 light years (130 parsecs) away, it is one of the closest star-forming regions to the Solar System. The related NGC 6726 and 6727, along with unrelated NGC 6729, were first recorded by Johann Friedrich Julius Schmidt in 1865. The Coronet cluster, about 554 light years (170 parsecs) away at the edge of the Gould Belt, is also used in studying star and protoplanetary disk formation."

GSO 10" F4 Newtonian, 1161 x 30 seconds, Canon full spectrum 1100D, Baader MPCC MKIII, UV/IR block filter, HEQ5 Pro unguided.

Lovely! A nice contrast balance between stars, black dust, and nebulosity.

A heroic effort stacking all those subs.

A great image Kevin.

That must be some sort of record for the number of subs!

Greg.

Nice Kevin that's a great image ! I've been working on the same thing over the past week - maybe a few less subs and I'm still not happy with it. Even less so since seeing yours.

That is a very nice unguided image Kevin. I shot that area last winter using 60" subs and yours looks much crisper.

Thanks M&T. Stacking is easy. The PC does it in my sleep.

Thanks Greg! I think the Serpens star cloud was more subs so this is not the record. Close though.

Thanks Glen! 30 sec subs have a natural dither effect too lol.

Great effort Kevin, one of my favorite areas of the sky,
You got Yodas' cane nicely and the Haro objects as well.

Cheers

Thanks Bill. Was just looking up Herbig-Haro objects and watching some movies from HST of the polar jets. Protostars are fascinating objects. I didn't realise HST had movies of them! Very cool.

Nice one Kevin, it's such a great looking region and like Omega Cen, if you get the basics right, hard to take a bad shot of this area

Thanks Mike! This is the first time I've taken it with the 10", and the detail level is much higher than previous attempts.
