Jupiter 20 June with bonus IR image from 19th Jupiter and Ganymede

Jupiter June 20
While waiting frostily for the early morning approach of Titan to Saturn I took some midnight captures of Jupiter. Seeing was not predicted to be very good but a few images came out okay with a bit of detail round the GRS. In case anyone desires more details of the capture than are on the image I have added the capture text file.

Have not yet looked at the Saturn captures but are not very optimistic on those as seeing appeared to deteriorate by 1am on the 21st and the fog came in around 2am and before Titan was close enough for a really good view.

Just to add a bit of variety, I have included an infra red image from the early evening of 19th June in which seeing was even less steady. The filter was a ProPlanet 742 IR filter. Ganymede was just departing Jupiter and so I was hoping to catch a view of it. I had hoped the result of the filter might be less seeing effected but as you can see it does not seem to be much benefit on a 6 inch scope for Jupiter. That might be because only around 5000 frames were captured over the same period 20,000 or so would normally be obtained. If I had bought an filter at around 640nm it just might have been a better fit for this scope.

Excellent , richly coloured images with good detail, were they taken with the C6, I'm assuming they were. This Jupiter season is providing plenty of imaging time but the seeing isn't cooperating.

Yes Jeff, it was the Celestron C6 on EVO in alt az mode.
After weeks of cloud it is good to have some interesting imaging opportunities even if usually focus is a bit of a guess as the image shudders and frizzes!

I probably should have had the Antares 1.5 barlow on (as I had last night) instead of the TV 2.5 but once I screw onto the camera that TV powermate I am loathe to change it and there is always the hope that seeing might improve for a few minutes.

Ross, you are producing wonderful images with your 6 inch scope. The first one is a real gem. I would be extremely proud of those, I tried for the first time shooting Jupiter with my ASI120MM-S using RGB filters last night, it was much more difficult than I thought. I think I'll stick to my DSLR! Keep your great shots coming, can't wait to see what you can produce out of Saturn.

No real success with Titan, I have images where you can see it but its blurred and would have to superimpose that result on a Saturn that is not overexposed. Conditions were not good by then.
I have attached an image of Saturn from just before 2am on the 21st.

I liked your earlier mono- Jupiter you should try a few more of them. I think getting multiple identical takes with filters would be often be challenging here.
But if you go back to the DSLR try an ortho!

Excellent images - especially considering they were done with only a 6 inch scope.
